Arena of Valor’s reach in China is already pretty much uncontested, but, as it turns out, the game is on its way to becoming just as big in other parts of the globe as well. Tencent’s mobile-based MOBA earned more than $140 Milions in revenue outside of China as reported by the analysts over at SensorTower. While this is just a small portion of the total $3.5 billion revenue that Arena of Valor reports including the Chinese market, $140 million is not half bad, especially when you consider that the game should only grow more popular with its Nintendo Switch port release. Chinese players have long had a chance to play Arena of Valor, which, in the country, is referred to as Honor of Kings. In the first half of 28 alone, Arena of Valor reportedly made Tencent $89.2 million, which is said to have been at least more than 25 percent of how much it made back in 2017. Arena of Valor’s popularity in other countries, both in the West and East, is already starting to grow. According to reports, the total gross revenue not including China reached $46.6 million during the first six months of 2018. This is a 50% growth over 2017. That Arena of Valor continues to report an increase in revenue despite seeing a drop in the number of downloads suggests that it is starting to retain more players. Of course, this could also coincide with recent reports from various agencies that show that casual players are more likely to spend money on free-to-play titles such as Arena of Valor. As Arena of Valor starts to grow in popularity, the developers’ reliance on whales – players who spend the most money – will lessen as it sees the expenditure of the average player rise and grow.
