League of Legends players rejoice, Riot Games have decided to heed your calls. Starting next week, the newly-introduced position rankings will be no more.

Riot Games shed light on the latest update to hit the League of Legends ranked system last week, where they talked about how a lot of players have complained about position ranks and how they had already begun considering putting an end to the new feature. This comes after Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer also addressed the situation in an earlier update. However, with the latest news, we now know that they’re no longer considering it – Riot are actually ending position ranks.

In their latest statement, SapMagic talks about standing by their initial promise of rolling back the new update if players expressed their dismay. True to this, they will end the new ranking system effective on March 13 in North America and Korea.

SapMagic also went on to explain what will happen for players who have already climbed ranks using the new system. For starters, once the positional ranks are discounted, players will receive their highest position rank as their new rank.

SapMagic also assured players that they will not lose any progress in any rewards, such as Ranked Armor, once the removal is complete.

In addition to this, high ranking players will go through a partial rank reset following the removal of position ranks. This is because the ranked system experienced bugs that made it easier for some players to climb faster compared to others, which is why Riot Games plans on partially resetting players in Diamond and Above.

SapMagic went on to say that they have to thoroughly test their approach first, or let they risk making it worse. He added that they intend to share the full details once they have a firm date set, or if they have to set the timing back a bit.
