The six League of Legends
teams from Europe and North America who will be competing at this year’s Rift Rivals LAN tournament have officially been announced. Three teams from the LCS (North America) and three teams from the LEC (Europe) will be competing later on at an unspecified date at an unspecified location. The participants are chosen based on their individual team rankings from the most recent season. In this case, the Spring Split 2019. The LCS will be represented by TeamSoloMid
and Team Liquid
, who are currently set to face off in the grand finals of the LCS Spring Split playoffs. The third slot was awarded to Cloud9
, who, despite falling to Team SoloMid
in the semifinals, will be attending Rift Rivals 2019 with FlyQuest’s
defeat at the hands of Team Liquid
in the semifinals. The LEC is still far from over. Currently, there are two matches still left to play at the LEC Spring Split playoffs, with three teams still in contention. However, the remaining three teams, G2 Esports, Origen, and Fnatic
, will be casting their own rivalries aside for the sake of regional pride as they go on to represent LEC at the Rift Rivals 2019.Rift Rivals is an international LAN event where teams from different regions will be battling it out, not for their respective teams, but for the pride of their entire region. The clash between North America and Europe is one of the most hotly anticipated battles throughout the competitive season of League of Legends
. Unfortunately, while Rift Rivals has long been a staple of the competitive scene of League of Legends
, Riot made a couple of big changes for 2019. In particular, they canceled all Rift Rivals tournaments outside of the clash between between NA and EU, as well as Korea (LCK), China (LPL), and LMS (Taiwan, Hongkong, and Macau). As already mentioned, Riot have yet to disclose the dates and location for Rift Rivals 2019. However, based on the previous Rift Rivals tournaments, we should expect the event to take place sometime in July.
