As the competitive scene of Fortnite: Battle Royale takes form, more and more cheaters have been caught and subsequently punished. One of the latest pro players to get banned is Damion “XXiF” Cook, who, thanks to recent footage, was found guilty to have been cheating. The footage floated around the Fortnite community earlier this week. It showed XXiF and his teammates having too easy of a time taking down their opponents. Fans questioned how easily XXiF got kills that he wondered if he was being fed by his friends so that he could gather enough points and qualify for the Fortnite World Cup, which will feature a $30 million total prize pool. As the footage got passed around, more and more of the audience wondered if XXiF was truly cheating or not. Then, on Thursday, May 2, Epic Games finally broke their silence and announced that XXiF was indeed cheating in “several matches.” Here’s what Fortnite’s developers had to say in their official statement: “All players involved will receive a 14 day competitive ban and will be ineligible for any Week 3 prizes. This group also included a player whose score would have qualified them for the Fortnite World Cup finals in New York. Consequently, in addition to the competitive ban and loss of prizing, this player will also forfeit their Fortnite World Cup Finals qualification spot.” Because of the ban, XXiF will have to vacate his spot for the Fortnite World Cup. It will now go to the next highest ranking North American player in the queue. In addition to banning XXiF, Epic Games also shared that they have since reprimanded 698 players for breaking tournament rules.
